31 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca CUSITAR, Ernest A. WWII Ernest enlisted in the Canadian Army in Winnipeg in September 1940. He served as a Signalman with the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division in Canada, England, France, Germany, Holland and Belgium during World War II. Ernest was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the Defence Medal, and the France and Germany Star and was discharged in September 1945 in Winnipeg. He was a member of Russell Legion Branch 159 and has passed away. DAVIDSON, Garry David WWII Garry was born in Boissevain, Manitoba on July 8, 1918. He joined the Army and served with the 8th Field Regiment during World War II. Garry has been a member of Boissevain Legion Branch 10 for fifty-nine years. DAVIS, Carol L. WWII Carol was born in Cartwright, Manitoba in 1911. He joined the Royal Canadian Engineers (RCE) and in 1940, was sent overseas where he served in England and Europe. When he was discharged in July 1945, Carol and his wife Doris, an English bride, returned to Cartwright where he worked as a grader operator on road construction for many years. Carol was a member of Cartwright-Mather Legion Branch 86 for more than twenty-eight years and passed away in 1988. His brothers, Thomas and Norman, both Gunners in the RCE, and Douglas with the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders, also served during WWII. Carol was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the War Medal 1939-45. DAVIES, Jack WWII Jack was born in 1923 in Morris, Manitoba and he volunteered to serve as soon as World War II was declared. He went to Europe with several of his friends, one of whom was killed in action on or around the end of the war. Jack served in England, drove an ambulance and administered to wounded soldiers in France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany. He met the love of his life, Simone Bernard, in Heist-op-den-Berg, Belgium, and they married in 1945. Simone came to Canada in 1946 and still resides in Morris today. Jack was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp. He was a member of Morris Legion Branch 111 before he died in 1975.
