He joined the Army in 1940 and served with 4th Division of the Lake Superior Regiment in Canada, Britain, France, Holland, Germany and Belgium. Russel died in 1979. WHITFIELD, Joseph Benjamin WWII Joseph was born on March 26, 1908 in Forest, Illinois, USA. His family moved to a farm near Boissevain, Manitoba during World War I and he had to become a Canadian citizen in order to enlist in the Canadian Army. He served with the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders and the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in Canada, Great Britain, France, and in Holland, where he was wounded. Joseph was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp. WIEBE, Henry E. WWII Henry was born in Morden, Manitoba on December 6, 1914. A talented musician and a farmer, he married Anne Dyck on October 11, 1936. He joined the Army and served in England, Holland and Belgium with the 10th Canadian Armoured Regiment, Fort Garry Horse, C Squadron. As a wireless operator in a Sherman tank, he was required to jam enemy radio frequencies, so he was nicknamed ‘Jammy’. Henry was awarded the 193945 Star, the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Bar, the France and Germany Star, the War Medal 1939-45, and received the Commander-in-Chief’s Certificate for his part in the Normandy invasion on June 6, 1944. He was discharged on November 22, 1945. After the war, Henry managed a diner, worked at construction, was a finishing-carpenter, and enjoyed various hobbies and gardening. He was a member of Morden Legion Branch 11 and he passed away on November 8, 1988. WIDDICOMBE, Edward Ted WWII Edward was born on the home farm in Foxwarren, Manitoba in 1912. He joined the Army and served as a Corporal with Fort Garry Horse in England and Holland during World War II. Edward was a member of Foxwarren Legion Branch 152 until his death in 1988.
