He enlisted in the Army in Winnipeg in 1941 and served with 26 Battery, 4th Field Regiment, 2nd Division in France, Germany and during the Liberation of Holland. He was a surveyor in the Artillery and a Gunner in the 25lb Field Artillery. After the war in 1947, he moved to Windsor, Ontario and was successful in business with Ajax Building Supplies. He married Mary Ann Gapa in 1950 and they had 7 children. He moved to Harrow, Ontario in 1971 and commuted to Windsor until his death on January 14, 1998. Boris was a member of Harrow Legion Branch 338 for forty years. WALKER, George WWII George was born in Boissevain, Manitoba on January 6, 1920. He joined the Army and served in the Royal Canadian Signal Corps in Canada, Italy and Great Britain. After the war, he worked at the Brandon Correctional Institution until he retired as Assistant Superintendent in 1982. He was active with the East End Community Centre, the Royal Canadian Legion, Georgette’s Twirling Corps, the Farmer’s Market and did community volunteer work. George was a member of Brandon Legion Branch 3 and he died on January 4, 1992. WATERS, Bernard WWI Bernard was born in Yorkshire, England in 1881. He enlisted on September 24, 1915 and served in England, France and Belgium during WWI. He was stationed with the 44th Battalion at Camp Hughes, Manitoba and in November 1916, arrived at Bramshott, England for further training. Then in March 1916, Bernard was deployed to Europe where he fought at Ypres, Belgium and at the Somme in France. In April 1917, he assisted in the capture of Hill 145, as well as the “Pimple”, a large hill on the northern end of Vimy Ridge. On May 12, 1917, he was wounded in action near Lens and eventually honourably discharged. Bernard was a member of Dominion City Legion Branch 160 before passing away in 1952. His grave is located in Dominion City, Manitoba. WALKER, Thomas H. WWI Thomas was born in Lancashire, Scotland in 1887. He joined the Army and served as a Regimental-Major with the Canadian Engineers in France during World War I. Thomas was a member of Pilot Mound Legion Branch 62 and he passed away in 1975.
