215 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca THOMPSON, Stephen E. WWII Stephen was born in Path Head, Manitoba in 1915. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1943, graduated as a Pilot Officer, and served in Canada during World War II. He was discharged in 1945. Stephen was a very active member of Wheat City Legion Branch 247 for forty-three years before he passed away in 1988 TIBBATTS, Kenneth S. “Ken” WWII Ken was born in Binscarth, Manitoba in 1924. He was 18 and at University when he decided to quit and enlist in the Royal Canadian Air Force in Winnipeg. He trained as an electrician and was stationed in Brandon, MB; Toronto, St. Thomas and Brantford, ON; Lachine, QC; and Debert, NS. He served from 1942-46 and was discharged in Winnipeg. Ken was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the War Medal 1939-45. Back in civilian life, he was a farmer and played as well as coached hockey for years. His name was placed on the Honour Roll of the South-West Hockey League and he received an award from the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association. Ken had married Mavis Loney in August 1947 and they raised two children, Gary and Kimberley. Both Mavis and Gary are buried in Foxwarren Cemetery. Ken has been a member of Foxwarren Legion Branch 152 for sixty-four years. TIMLICK, David WWI David was born in Timlick Settlement, Manitoba in 1878. He joined the Army and served as a Sergeant-Major in Canada with the 18th Canadian Mounted Rifles during World War I. He died in 1936. TIBBATTS, Lloyd C. WWII Lloyd was born in Foxwarren, Manitoba in 1924. He enlisted in the Army at Fort Osborne Barracks in Winnipeg on April 13, 1943 and trained in Shilo and Brandon. He went overseas and was transferred to the Regina Rifles Regiment in July 1944 while he was in France. Lloyd served in France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany and was discharged on March 30, 1946. He couldn’t remember all the medals he was awarded except for the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the War Medal 1939-45. In civilian life, Lloyd farmed and also worked on building several elevators. He married Frances Calder on October 17, 1985 and they are now retired and living in Russell, Manitoba. He has been a member of Foxwarren Legion Branch 152 for fifty-one years and Frances is a member of the Auxiliary.
