185 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca ROBIE, Rea Russell Stanley WWI Rea was born in Stillwell Langdon, North Dakota, USA on January 23, 1891. He was a farmer by trade and never married. Rea joined the Manitoba Regiment of the Canadian Infantry in Pilot Mound, Manitoba on April 1, 1916 and went overseas on the RMS Empress Britain in October 1916 with the 184th Battalion. From December 1916 to May 1917, he served in the trenches of France. He was reported missing, then confirmed dead on May 3, 1917. Rea is remembered with honour on the Vimy Ridge Memorial in France. RODGERS, James S. PEACETIME James was born in Carman, Manitoba in 1936. He joined the Army and served with 445 Squadron, 1 Wing, in Marville, France from 1959-1963. He was awarded the Military Medal and the Special Service Award. James has been a member of Carman Legion Branch 18 for fifty-one years, as well as its Past President. RODWELL, Frederick James WWI & WWII Frederick was born in Bentley, England in 1889. He joined the Army and served in Canada, Britain and France with the Canadian Expeditionary Force in WWI and with the Winnipeg Rifles in WWII. He was wounded three times in World War I and he was a Regimental Sergeant Major at Shilo during World War II. Frederick was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal and the Military Medal for singlehandedly disarming 13 German troops and taking one prisoner. He was a member of Boissevain Legion Branch 10 for more than twenty-five years. Frederick died in 1971. RODWELL, Frederick Jack WWII Frederick was born in 1910 in England. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served on the ground crew with No. 83 Group, Tactical Air Force, 39 Reconnaissance Wing in Newfoundland, England, Holland and Germany. Frederick died in 2002.
