He joined the Canadian Armed Forces and served as a Corporal with the Royal Canadian Air Force in Canada, England and Europe from 1953 to 1972. Nestor was a member of Dauphin Legion Branch 20 and he died in 1980. RESZITNYK, Nick W. WWII Nick was born in Sclater, Manitoba in 1917. He joined the Army in 1939 and served as a Sergeant with the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders in Canada and Continental Europe during World War II. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, the 1939-45 Star, the Defence Medal, the France and Germany Star, and the War Medal 1939-45. Nick died in 2002. ROBERTSON, Harvey Louis WWII Harvey was born in Margaret, Manitoba in 1919. He joined the Army and served in Canada during World War II. Harvey died in 1980. RICHARDSON, Alfred F. “Alfie” WWII Alfie was born in Newcastle, England in 1916 and later lived in The Pas, Manitoba. He joined the Army and was serving with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles when he landed on Juno Beach on June 6, 1944. Upon landing, Sergeant Richardson and three other soldiers were on a reconnaissance mission when they found themselves involved in a German SS counter-attack. Wounded in the shoulder and chest, he was evacuated back to England but after a short recuperation, was back fighting in France. In October 1944, he was involved in fierce fighting at the Leopold Canal and the Scheldt Pocket in The Netherlands, for which he received the Military Medal, the third highest award for gallantry in the UK, and the United States Silver Star, which is also the third highest award for gallantry in the United States Allied Forces. He also fought at the Battle of Moyland Wood. Alfie passed away in 1998.
