He joined the Army, served with the Calgary Highlanders in Canada, Holland, Belgium, France and Germany, and was wounded overseas. Ernest died in 1995. REMPEL, Herman WWII Herman was born in Gretna, Manitoba in 1915 and left the family farm after high school to attend Teacher Training in Winnipeg. He taught at several rural schools in southern Manitoba from the late 1930s to the late 1940s, interrupted by his service during World War II. He joined the Army in January 1943 and did his basic training in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan and his technical training in Kingston, Ontario. He embarked for Europe in April 1944 and served as a signalman in England and Europe. Herman returned to Canada in January 1946 and married Helena (nee Hamm) in 1942. Five years later, they moved to Winnipeg where he began his civil service career with the federal government. Herman passed away in 2008 at the age of ninety-four. RESZITNYK, John H. WWII John was born in Sclater, Manitoba in 1923. He joined the Army and served with the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders in Canada and Continental Europe during World War II. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, the 1939-45 Star, the Defence Medal, the France and Germany Star, and the War Medal 1939-45. John died in 1996. RESCH, Bernard P. WWII Bernard was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1915. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force at #10 District Depot and served with the 1st Canadian Paratroopers Battalion in Europe during World War II. Bernard was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and was a member of Ashern Legion Branch 57 before he died in 1966.
