He enlisted in the Army in May 1941, first as part of the 18th Reconnaissance Battalion, and later the 12th Manitoba Dragoons. In August 1942, he was a Corporal when he went to England to serve. In March 1943, he returned to Canada as a Sergeant, was posted to Dundurn, SK and instructed in driving and maintaining military vehicles. He was then promoted to Staff Sergeant. In December 1944, he was posted to Camp Borden, ON as an instructor. At war’s end, he was moved to London, ON to the General Motors plant to oversee the refurbishment of army vehicles being sent over to Europe for evacuation use. After discharge in January 1946, he returned to Saskatoon where he married Marjorie Anna Larsen on September 28, 1946. Two years later, he moved to Morden, MB and resided there until his death on December 18, 1981. RACKHAM, Herbert E. WWII Herbert was born in Somerset, Manitoba in 1922. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served as a radio operator in Canada, England and Northwest Europe. He was a member of Altamont Legion Branch 195 for 25 years and was with Morden Legion Branch 11 for another 25 years. Herbert passed away in 1998. RAINE, Wilfred N. WWII Wilfred was born in Boissevain, Manitoba in 1924. He joined the Army but he contracted rheumatic fever and spent the war years in the hospital at Deer Lake. RAINE, Wilfred WWI Wilfred was born in Richmond, Yorkshire in 1889. He joined the Army and served in the Canadian Railway Corps in France and Belgium. He was a member of Boissevain Legion Branch 10 for twenty-six years. He died in 1969.
