He served as a Private in the 78th Battalion, Canadian Infantry, Manitoba Regiment in Europe and France where he died on the battlefield on November 20, 1916. He was 20 years old. Rayment’s name is engraved on the Vimy Memorial in France. PINNELL, John Edward WWII John was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1919. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served on HMCS Alberni, Trillium, Vancouver and other ships in the North Atlantic and the Pacific. He was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the Atlantic Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the 1939-45 War Medal. POAST, Francis H. WWII Francis was born in 1925 in Napinka, which is in rural Dauphin, Manitoba. He joined the Royal Canadian Army’s 1st Canadian Paratroopers Battalion in 1944 and was one of a large class of soldiers who graduated as full-fledged parachutists at the A35 Canadian Parachute Training Centre at Camp Shilo. Francis served as a Private in England and Europe. After his discharge in 1946, he returned to Dauphin where he farmed with his brother. Francis and his wife, Lois (Paiment), raised one son and six daughters. Francis died in Dauphin in 1984. He had been a member of Dauphin Legion Branch 20. PLANT, Darcy K. WWII Darcy was born in Rossburn, Manitoba in 1919. He enlisted in the Army in June 1940 and served with the 5th Armoured Division of the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps in Canada, England, Italy, Germany, France and Holland. He was discharged in Winnipeg in November 1945 and was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, and the War Medal 1939-45. Darcy has been a member of Flin Flon Legion Branch 73 and Brandon Legion Branch 3 for a total of sixty years.
