165 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca PENNINGTON, Kenneth J. WWII Kenneth was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1926. He joined the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry and served in Canada with the 2nd Battalion during World War II. He has been a member of Fort Garry Legion Branch 90 for twenty-seven years. PETERS, Nickolas A. WWII Nickolas was born in Russia in 1920. He joined the Army and served in Canada in the Medical Corps during World War II. Nickolas passed away in 2000. PETTER, Edward Harry “Ted” WWII Ted was born in 1917 in Colpoy’s Bay, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on September 15, 1939 and was one of the first young men in his area to enlist. He was 22 years old when he was shipped overseas. Ted served in Canada, England, France, Belgium, Luxemburg, Holland, and Germany with the 3rd Division of the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps and the Ammunition Company. His job classification was that of instructor and his rank often changed. During his service overseas, he did not receive any bad injuries but did speak of a ‘scratch on the knee’ he got during commando training. Also while overseas, he met his wife, Ella Hurl, with whom he was married for almost 50 years. Ted was a member of Gladstone Legion Branch 110 for fifty years before he died in 2009. PETERSON, John Hubert “Hub” WWII Hub was born in 1923 in Treherne, Manitoba. In 1943, he took his Air Bomber training course at Virden, Manitoba with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was stationed as a Private in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia as he waited to go overseas when World War II ended. He returned to his job at the C.I.B.C. where he worked for 41 years. Hub married Olive Isabel Worden of Melville, Saskatchewan in 1947 and they raised three children. He currently resides in Dominion City, Manitoba and is a Life member of Dominion City Legion Branch 160.
