115 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca MAINS, Clifford N. WWI Clifford was born in Bluevale, Ontario in 1890. After joining the 222nd Battalion in March 1916 and the 44th Battalion, he served twenty-two months in France and Belgium during World War I. He received the Military Medal and the Distinguished Conduct Medal. Clifford had been a member of Boissevain Legion Branch 10 for over twenty-five years when he passed away in 1948. MALUISH, George WWII George was born in Kenora, Ontario in 1919. He served with the Royal Canadian Air Force in Canada, England and Northwestern Europe. George was killed in action in 1943 and may have been shot down. His brother, Ted, also served in the RCAF. MANNS, Charles WWII Charles was born on February 10, 1924 in Gilbert Plains, Manitoba. He joined the Army on November 11, 1943 and took his basic training in Winnipeg and Camp Shilo. He then sailed on l’Île de France and joined the Royal Canadian Winnipeg Rifles overseas where he served in England and Northwestern Europe until the war ended. He came home on the same ship and was discharged on August 17, 1946. Charles still lives on the same farm where he grew up and has been a member of Grandview Legion Branch 14 for forty years. MALUISH, Norman Edward “Ted” WWII Ted was born in Kenora, Ontario on July 15, 1921. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1940 and trained in St. Thomas, Ontario and Yorkton, Saskatchewan for duty as an airframe mechanic. He went to England where he worked on Lancasters then to Belgium with the Spitfire Squadron. His last posting was Fassberg, Germany, near the end of the war. Honourably discharged with a rank of Leading Aircraftman, Ted was awarded the Defense Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and the War Medal 1939-45. His brother, George, also served in the RCAF but was killed in action in 1943.
