105 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca LOGAN, Thomas J. P. WWII Thomas was born in Lorlie, Saskatchewan in 1916 and passed away in 1999. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served as a Corporal and transport driver with 437 Squadron in Trenton, Ontario and Dauphin, Manitoba, as well as in England, Belgium and France. Thomas was a member of General Lipsett Legion Branch 99 in Emo for more than fifty years. LOVE, Wilton G. A. WWII Wilton was born in Killarney, Manitoba in 1926. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served in Canada during World War II. He was a member of Boissevain Legion Branch 10 for twelve years. Wilton died in 1975. LOVELACE, Floyd E. WWII Floyd was born in Souris, Manitoba in 1918. After joining the Royal Canadian Air Force and training as a Wireless-Air Gunner, he was assigned to No. 14 Squadron in North Africa, flying as a tail gunner on a Martin Marauder (B-26). He was credited with downing an ME323, which crashed in the Mediterranean Sea and he witnessed the bombing of the Roma, an Italian “Littorio” class battleship during the surrender of the Italian Fleet on September 9, 1943. On his second tour of duty, Floyd was part of a crew providing air transport to Air Vice Marshall Sir John Slessor from a base in Italy. He returned home as a Flying Officer on Christmas Day in 1944 and married Kathleen Smith in January 1945. They lived in Winnipeg where Floyd worked as a locomotive engineer for the CPR. He was a member of Prince Edward Legion Branch 81 and he died in 2007. LOVELACE, Edward S. “Ed” WWII Ed was born in Souris, Manitoba in 1919. He joined the Army in Winnipeg in early 1942 and trained in communications (signals). He was in a Royal Canadian Corps of Signals unit, assigned to the 1st Canadian Division, and saw active duty in Italy where he was wounded and hospitalized. Ed returned to Canada in 1945 and worked with the C.N.R. as a telegrapher, a position he held for a few years. Ed had a strong connection to Souris and the area: he married the late Audrey Wilkinson of Melita, worked in various aerial spray enterprises, and eventually opened his own company, Even-Spray and Chemicals, in Winnipeg. Ed died in 1982.
