101 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca LAVOIE, Joseph J. WWII Joe was born on November 22, 1925 in St. Boniface, Manitoba. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps, 34th Canadian Corps Troop Company, in Winnipeg on July 9, 1944. He did his basic training in Red Deer, Alberta, was transferred to Debert, Nova Scotia on January 29, 1945. and was then posted overseas where he trained at Farnborough, England. Joe was transferred to the CBRG-13th Battalion of the Canadian Army and was deployed to Europe with his unit in order to take part in the liberation of Holland and Belgium before going on to Germany. Joe was repatriated to Canada in July 1945 and discharged in April 1946. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the France and Germany Star and the War Medal 1939-45. Joe was a member of Pine Falls Legion 64 before he passed away on October 21, 1993. LAW, Albert C. WWII Albert was born in Darlingford, Manitoba in 1915. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served in England with 405 City of Vancouver Squadron (Pathfinder Force). He was killed in action on July 10, 1943 when his Halifax aircraft was badly damaged by flak over Gelsenkirchen, Germany. The plane returned and landed safely at RAF Station, Gransden Lodge, but Flying Officer Bomb Aimer Law, the only casualty, was killed in the aircraft by shell fragments. He is buried in the City Cemetery in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England. Albert was awarded the 193945 Star, the Air Crew Europe Star, the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the War Medal 1939-45, and the Memorial Cross. LEIFSO, Elmer J. WWII Elmer was born in Verwood, Saskatchewan in 1920. He joined the Army and served in Canada with the Artillery during World War II. He is a Life member of Boissevain Legion Branch 10. Elmer has been a member for sixty-five years. LEAMING, Harry D. WWII Harry was born in 1916 in Birtle, Manitoba. He joined the Canadian Army and served with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry during World War II. Harry was a member of Brandon Legion Branch 3 for about thirty-two years before he passed away in 1977.
