97 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca GOOD, William Herbert (Bert) WWI William was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1895 and served in the Army (Infantry) while stationed in Montreal. His troop was scheduled to go overseas, but due to an outbreak of measles, they were quarantined in Montreal and never did go overseas. He was discharged soon after. He farmed in the Woodlands area until 1950 and then worked for the R.M. of Woodlands, Pilkington Glass in Winnipeg and the M.T.S. in Stonewall. Because he knew horses, he made many farm calls with the staff of the Stonewall Veterinary Clinic. When he died in 1988, he was the Honourary President of the Stonewall Legion Branch #52. William’s wife, Myrtle (Land), predeceased him in 1981 and together, they had three children. GOODCHILD, Thomas A. WWI Thomas was born in Waterford, Ireland in 1850 and joined the Canadian Army Medical Corps. He served in Canada and England at the Moore Barracks Hospital and the Canadian Convalescent Hospital, Bear Wood Park. Thomas passed away in 1920. GOULDING, Acheson G. WWI & WWII Acheson was born in Stony Mountain, Manitoba in 1893. He joined the Canadian Expeditionary Force and served with the 28th Battalion in Belgium. After winning a battlefield commission, he transferred to the Royal Flying Corps in September 1916 and trained in England. He was assigned to 17 Squadron in Egypt and then to 150 Squadron in Macedonia. He was credited with downing 9 enemy aircraft. Acheson received the Military Cross, a Distinguished Flying Cross and the French Croix de Guerre. He joined the RCAF in 1940, was a Staff Officer of # 2 Air Training Command and became Commanding Officer of # 18 Service Flying Training School at Gimli. He passed away in Fort Garry, MB on April 27, 1951. GOODCHILD, Thomas A. WWII Thomas was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1912. He joined the Air Force, British Commonwealth Air Training, as a bombing and gunnery instructor. He served in Mossbank, Saskatchewan and Canada. He passed away in 1976.
