WWII William was born in Holland, Manitoba in 1917 and enlisted in the Army in Winnipeg, MB on June 11, 1942, training in Winnipeg, Thunder Bay, ON and Red Deer, Calgary and Edmonton, AB. From 1943, he served overseas as a trained mechanic with the 5th Co. RCA Service Corps, 2nd Division. In 1944, Jim took part in the invasion of France and fought in Belgium, Holland and Germany. Honourably discharged on January 10, 1946 with the rank of Lance Corporal, Jim received the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and the 1939-45 War Medal. Jim had been a member of RCL Boissevain Branch #10 for seventeen years when he passed away in 2003. GODIN, Irene Effie Mae WWII Irene was born in Minitonas, Manitoba in 1924 and joined the Royal Canadian Air Force Women’s Division, serving in the clerical departments in Ottawa, Winnipeg and Dauphin. After being discharged, she worked in her brother’s store in Dauphin and also taught school for a short time in Bowsman, MB. She then worked in Minitonas and later married Bill Robb with whom she raised three sons and a daughter. Bill passed away in1980 and Effie later married Robert Glasscock. She currently resides in Swan River, MB. Effie has been a member of the Minitonas Branch of The Royal Canadian Legion for over forty years. GODKIN, Alexander R. WWII Alexander was born in Morden, Manitoba in 1919. He joined the Air Force in 1941, trained as a radar technician and served overseas with the RAF in Lough Erne, Northern England. In 1942, he was posted to the Middle East, Egypt, Greece, then to England, returning to Canada where he worked for the Manitoba and Roger Sugar companies for 34 years. In 1950, he married Helen Linger of Stonewall and they had two sons, Robert and Paul. Alexander received the 1939-45 Star, the Africa Star, the Italy Star, the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Medal and Clasp, the 1939-45 War Medal, the Queen Elizabeth’s 50th Jubilee Medal and a Certificate of Appreciation from the UK Government. Alex has been a Life Member of Morris Branch #111 for 56 years and was Mayor of the Town of Morris, President of the Red Cross, Morris Legion and the Curling Club. GODIN, Seymour Arthur WWII Seymour was born in Minitonas, Manitoba in 1919 and joined the Royal Canadian Army, Lake Superior Regiment. He served in Europe and was wounded while in Belgium. He returned to England then to Canada where he was an instructor at Shilo. After his discharge, Seymour managed grocery stores in Dauphin and Carberry, Manitoba and married Laura (Graham) with whom he raised a son. Moving later to Surrey, British Columbia, he passed away in 1996. He had been a member of the Mission BC Branch of The Royal Canadian Legion.
