93 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca GLADSTONE, Robert W. WWII Robert was born in Boissevain, Manitoba in 1918. He joined the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in Winnipeg in 1943 and sailed on the Leopold to the siege of Ortona, Italy. He fought with the Gurkhas, north through the Gothic Line, Hitler Line, France, Belgium and Holland to Germany. His friend Reese was killed and Bob brought his watch back to his mother in Deloraine, Manitoba after returning home on the Queen Mary in 1945. Robert passed away in 1993 and had been a member of the Boissevain and Cartwright-Mather Branches of The Royal Canadian Legion for forty-eight years. GLAWSON, E. (Ted) F. WWII Ted was born in Hartney, Manitoba in 1921 and joined the Royal Canadian Artillery, 1st Canadian Corps as a gunner, serving in Italy, Sicily, Belgium and Holland. He passed away in 1997 and was a Life Member of the Hartney Branch #26 of The Royal Canadian Legion. GLOFCHESKI, Father Raphael A. SPECIAL AREA DUTY & PEACETIME Raphael (Chaplin RC) was born on March 2, 1931 at Barry’s Bay, Ontario. On September 11, 1963, he was posted to Arnprior then joined the RCAF as Chaplin and was posted at North Bay. His next postings were in Trenton, ON then Pakistan, Laos, Vietnam, Tanzania and Ghana. In all, he had 18 postings all over the country before retiring in November 1987. He was with RCL Bancroft Branch #181 in Ontario from 1989 and Branch 406 in Barry’s Bay in 1990. Father Raphael is presently Honorary Chaplin (RC) for the Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario Command and received the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal and the Legion Certificate of Merit. He’s been a member of RCL Charleswood Branch #100 for twenty-two years. GLENNON, Sidney WWII Sidney was born in Dauphin, Manitoba in 1915 and was employed with the CNR Bridge and Building until 1939. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force as a mechanic and served overseas. After his discharge in 1945, Sidney returned to Dauphin where he was employed in the automotive industry as a mechanic. He and his wife, Myrtle (Heller) had two daughters. Sidney passed away in Dauphin in 1989 and had been a member of the Dauphin Branch #20 of The Royal Canadian Legion.
