83 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca FOXTON, James Melford WWII James was born in 1923 and enlisted in Winnipeg, Manitoba with the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps on May 31, 1941. He served in Canada, the United Kingdom, Central Mediterranean and Continental Europe and was discharged on January 19, 1946 at Winnipeg. Upon returning home, he worked for his uncle’s family until March 1957 then got married in June. He and his wife had four children, Doug, Blaird, Eric and Cheryl. James was postmaster in Oakburn until his illness and death in 1971. He received the 1939-45 Star, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. FREDERICK, Carl H. WWII Carl was born in Morris, Manitoba on January 29, 1923. He enlisted in the Army and was posted to England where he was billeted for three years with a local family. He was part of the Allied invasion of Sicily in 1943 and Italy in 1944. Carl returned to North America in 1945 and landed in Philadelphia where he had the honour of shaking President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s hand. Back in Canada, he moved to Pine Falls and married Georgina Pearl Roy with whom he had five children. Carl graduated from the University of Winnipeg with a degree in Human Resources Management and received his 50-year membership pin from The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #64. FULTON, Robert Louis WWII Robert was born in Dauphin, Manitoba in 1921 and joined the Royal Canadian Army, 12th Manitoba Dragoons Division in 1942, serving in England and Europe. Upon returning to Dauphin, he was employed as a mechanic in local garages and later with the Department of Highways. He married Kathleen (Robinson) and continued to reside in Dauphin. They did not have a family. Robert died of cancer in 2003 at age 82 and had been a member of the Dauphin Branch #20 of The Royal Canadian Legion. FRY, Howard WWII Howard was born in Hartney, Manitoba in 1926 and joined the Navy. He served on the HMCS Chippawa, Griffon, Buxton, Stadacona, Avalon, Cornwallis, Scotian, Peregrine and did a short tour on the Destroyer Haida as a Stoker First Class. Howard passed away in 1989.
