WWII John was born in Reston, Manitoba in 1913 and joined the Army in October 1942, training as a cook (Class C). He sailed to England in July 1944 and in September, volunteered for active service as a rifleman. Involved in the fighting for the Scheldt Estuary, he was severely wounded on October 25, 1944 and was hospitalized in England until March 1945. He served in Canada, England and Holland then returned to farming in Manitoba and with his wife, raised a family of four. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal Ribbon, the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal and the 1939-45 War Medal. Jack had been a member of RCL Reston Branch for forty-six years when he passed away in 1991. FOUBERT, Raymond F. WWII Ray was born in Fisher Branch, Manitoba on October 4, 1917. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in Winnipeg, MB on November 6, 1941 where he took his basic training. He was posted to Dauphin, MB for the advanced portion then transferred to Lachine, QC, concluding his military service in Boundary Bay, BC where he was discharged from active service on August 31, 1945. After his discharge, Ray lived in Winnipeg and later moved to Lac du Bonnet in 1955. Ray passed away on February 6, 2007 and is survived by his wife Elvy and his son and daughter. He was a member of RCL Lac du Bonnet Branch #164 for sixty years. FOXTON, Henry (Allan) WWII Henry was born in Manitoba in 1925 and was a member of the Royal Winnipeg Rifles, D Company, 18th Platoon. He enlisted at age 18 with the Fort Osborne Barracks in Winnipeg and trained at Camp Borden, Ontario before going overseas as part of the Armoured Corps. He served in Germany where he was wounded twice and when the war was over, he served as part of an occupation troop in Germany. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the Defence of Britain Medal, the France and Germany Star, the 1939-45 Star, the War Medal 1939-45 and one wound stripe. Henry passed away in 2003. FOX, Albert Lloyd WWII Albert was born in Desford, Manitoba in 1920 to Francis Rand and Annie M. Fox. He joined the # 78 Squadron, served in England and was killed in action on December 21, 1942 when his plane went down in the North Sea. Albert is commemorated at Great Yarmouth Cemetery, Norfolk, England. In 1995, Fox Rapids in the Seal River was named after him.
