WWII Lawrence was born in Hartney, Manitoba in 1915 and joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, 6th Heavy Bomber Group. Larry was one of the original pilots in the Canadian Group formed in 1942 to carry out bombing operations in the UK against European targets. The members of the 424 Squadron, particularly his crew, respected his ability, quiet efficiency and courage. Although laid back and easy going, he was still captain of the aircraft and head of the crew and gave a strict order that what happened in the plane would be kept strictly among themselves. He received the King George Medal. Larry passed away in 1996 and was a member of RCL Souris Branch 60. FORD, George H. WWI George was born on a farm near Lake Frances, Manitoba in 1896 and the family moved to Needles, British Columbia when he was 16 years old. He enlisted at age 19 in the Canadian Army Medical Corps, having previously served in the 88th Victoria Fusiliers as a glass worker. He also served overseas with the # 8 Canadian Field Ambulance. George passed away in Victoria, BC in 1981. FORSTER, Russell J. WWII Russell was born in Melita, Manitoba in 1922. He joined the Army, 1st Canadian Division, Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment in December 1942. After training at Shilo and Portage la Prairie and serving in Canada, he went to England then to Italy. He was part of the Allied Forces who fought for twenty-two months in some of the bloodiest battles in Italy. He spent a year in England after the war and returned to Canada in September 1946 and worked at several jobs. From 1949, he farmed near Waskada, MB and married in 1950. He retired to Killarney Lake in 1978 and was a life member of the Waskada Branch #92. Russell passed away in 2009. FORD, Robert W. WWI Robert was born in Kent County, England in 1892, the year his parents immigrated to Canada to a farm near Lake Frances, Manitoba. At 18, he joined the 18th Mounted Rifles in Winnipeg and when the family moved to Needles, BC a year later, he enlisted in the 88th Victoria Fusiliers as an express driver. He served overseas in the UK and Europe and was wounded in the neck. He later became a member in the Masonic Lodge. Robert passed away in Kimberley, BC in 1946.
