He joined the Air Force, graduated as an Observer in February 1942 and went to England. Posted to 405 Squadron “Pathfinder Force” Bomber Command, he survived his first tour of bombing mission and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in October 1943. During his third tour, he was promoted to Squadron Leader and awarded the Distinguished Service Order in September 1944. He was one of three Canadians to survive four tours and was awarded a Bar to his Distinguished Flying Cross. He also received the Defence Medal, the 1939-45 Star, the Air Crew Europe Star, the France and Germany Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and the War Medal 1939-45. Glenmore died in 1999. ELSTON, Curtis R.G. SPECIAL AREA DUTY Curtis was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1935 and joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in September 1952. He took his basic training in St. Jean, Quebec and trades training (Communications Operator) in Clinton, Ontario, spending most of his career serving on many bases in Canada. Curtis was sent to 1 Air Division HQ, Metz, France from October 1958 to May 1961 during the French-Algerian War. In 1967, the Canadian Forces integrated and he worked mostly with the Royal Canadian Signals before retiring in December 1975. Curtis received the Special Services Medal (NATO), the Canadian Centennial Medal (1967) and the Canadian Decoration and Bar. He has been member of RCL Morden Branch #11 for thirtynine years. ETHIER, Joseph P. WWII Joseph was born in St. Boniface, Manitoba in 1921 and enlisted in the Army at the age of 17. He served with the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders (Winnipeg) during WWII in Germany, France, England and in the Netherlands. He received the France and Germany Star, the 1939-45 Voluntary Service Medal, the King George VI Medal and the Medal of Remembrance after the liberation of Holland. After the war, he continued his training as a Chef at the St. Boniface Hospital and continued to work in the food industry until his retirement. He was a member of the St. Boniface/Norwood Legion Branch #43 for more than thirty-five years until he passed away in 2006. EMBREE, Ernest G. WWII Ernest was born in the Arthur Municipality, Manitoba on September 26, 1916. He joined the Winnipeg Dragoons in 1939 and was discharged in 1943. Ernest was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #60 for forty-three years before he passed away on January 15, 1988.
