71 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca EINARSON, Sigurjon M. WWII Sigurjon was born in Winnipegosis, Manitoba on January 18, 1921. He joined the South Saskatchewan Regiment and served in Canada, England and France. He was killed in action on July 20, 1944 and is buried in the Bretteville-sur-Laize Cemetery. EIRIKSSON, Kristjan E. WWII Kristjan was born in Silver Bay, Manitoba in 1920. In 1941, he joined the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps and went overseas to Britain in 1942. He also served in Belgium, Holland and Germany. In 1946, Kristjan returned to Canada and worked with the Forestry Department, mining in Sherridon. He then moved to Brandon where he studied and became a registered psychiatric nurse. Married in 1946, he and his wife raised five children. Kristjan had been a member of the Brandon Branch #3 of The Royal Canadian Legion when he passed away in 2000. ELLIS, Wilfred J. WWII Wilfred was born in Reston, Manitoba on September 21, 1918 and enlisted at 23 in the Royal Canadian Artillery. He served in the UK, the Central Mediterranean and Continental Europe. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the 1939-45 Star, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star and was discharged on December 6, 1945. Back home, he married Connie Low on November 17, 1948 and they had four children. He was a mechanic at the Nolan Garage and in 1957, bought the business, sold and serviced farm equipment, tires and Chrysler cars. Work was Wilfred’s life until he retired in 1981 due to ill health. Wilfred belonged to the Reston Legion for six years and passed away on January 15, 1986. ELLIOTT, Edward W. WWII Edward was born on June 8, 1910 in Baldur, Manitoba. He enlisted as an Assistant Advisory Officer in the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Ordnance Corps in New Westminster, BC and served in England, Sicily and Italy. Ed was killed in a lumber mill accident in British Columbia in 1947 and is buried in Stonewall Cemetery, Stonewall, Manitoba.
