He joined the Army on February 14, 1943, trained in Winnipeg and did his airborne training in Shilo, MB and in Bulford, England. Wounded on March 24, 1945, Seth was only evacuated five days later to England where doctors had to amputate his right leg below the knee. In the fall of 1945, Seth joined The Royal Canadian Legion and received his 55 years pin posthumously in April, 2000. He was a founding member, President, District and Zone Commander of the Sonningdale, SK Branch and in 1960, served as President and Zone Commander at the Selkirk Branch #42. Seth was also a 55-year member of the War Amputations of Canada. Seth passed away in 2000. DODD, Allan J. PEACETIME Allan was born in Souris, Manitoba in 1948. He joined the Royal Canadian Army at Shilo, Manitoba and served in Canada. He’s been a member of the Souris Branch #60 of The Royal Canadian Legion for ten years. No additional information is available. DODD, William R. WWII William was born in Spy Hill, SK in 1923. He joined the Canadian Army at Brandon, MB on October 3, 1942 and trained with the 26th Field Regiment at Shilo and with the 19th Field Regiment in Petawawa, ON. He served as a tank driver in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany and found himself behind enemy lines but everything was quiet as no one was shooting at them. On D-Day, they landed on the beach at Bernières-sur-Mer along with troops from Britain. Bill sailed home on the Queen Mary and was discharged at Fort Osborne Barracks on January 29, 1946. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and has been a member of RCL Souris Branch #60 for the past thirty-two years. DODD, Jack D. WWII Jack was born in Spy Hill, SK on July 2, 1924. He joined the Air Force, trained as a pilot then was sent to Comox, BC as a transport pilot with full crew. He sailed to England and flew to India where they formed RCAF Transport Squadrons to supply the British 14th Army in Burma. On December 8, 1944, he came down with acute anterior poliomyelitis and was paralyzed from the hips down. He returned to Canada in June 1945 where he served as equipment officer at RCAF # 8 Repair Depot, Winnipeg, MB until his discharge on September 15, 1945. Jack worked at plumbing and heating until 1967 and was assistant postmaster until 1984. He’s been a member of RCL Souris Branch #60 for sixty-five years.
