55 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca DE MARCO, Julius George WWII Julius was born in Beauséjour, MB in 1917 and enlisted in the Canadian Army on June 19, 1944 in Prince George, BC. As a Private and a Signalman in the Canadian Infantry Corps-Lincoln and Welland Regiments, he served in the United Kingdom, Belgium and Holland. He was wounded in action in 1945 in Maas, Netherlands and recovered in England. Discharged on March 15, 1946, Julius was awarded the France and Germany Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. His experience in the war motivated him to be a lifetime blood donor to the Canadian Red Cross and was awarded a certificate by Governor General Ed Schreyer for his contribution of 100 donations of blood. Julius died on May 30, 1999 at age 82. DEMOND, John A. SPECIAL AREA DUTY John was born in Upper Cornwall, Nova Scotia and enlisted in Halifax with the Royal Canadian School of Artillery, Fort Churchill, the 2nd Royal Canadian Horse Artillery,and 3rd Royal Canadian Horse Artillery, serving in Canada and Central Europe. He was honourably discharged on March 6, 1979 with the rank of Warrant Officer and was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration with Clasp and the NATO Medal. John passed away in 2003 and was a Life Member of the Brandon Branch #3 of The Royal Canadian Legion. DENNY, Albert R. PEACETIME Albert was born in Boissevain, Manitoba in 1950 and joined the 8th Canadian Hussars, serving in Egypt, Israel, Cyprus, Germany and Canada. He received the Cyprus, Egypt, Israel, SSM, Peacekeeper Medals, and the Canadian Forces Decoration. DENBOW. Wilfred E. (Scottie) WWII Wilfred was born in Deleau, Manitoba on July 30, 1916 and enlisted in 1942 with the Winnipeg Rifles, training in Winnipeg, MB and Vancouver, BC. In 1944, he was shipped to England with the 69th Division and was a CMHQ driver, receiving his discharge on December 24, 1945. Scottie passed away in 2001 and had been a member of the Souris Branch #60 of The Royal Canadian Legion for thirty-nine years.
