53 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca DANE, George W. WWII George, son of William and May Dane, was born in Fairfax, Manitoba on August 29, 1924. He joined the Royal Winnipeg Rifles in 1942 and after training in Canada, was sent to Britain and then to Italy. While serving in Italy, he was wounded twice but continued in the Army through Belgium and Holland. After the war, George married Irene Fredrickson of Edmonton and worked at the Land Office there until he died in 1966 at the age of 41. Irene and George had three sons. DAVIDSON, Peter E. WWII Peter was born in Boissevain, Manitoba in 1917. He joined the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps and served in England, Italy, France and Holland. Peter passed away in 1991 and had been a member of the Deloraine Royal Canadian Legion. DAY, John D. WWII John was born in Winnipeg, MB on July 14, 1923. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Navy at HMCS Chippawa in Winnipeg on July 14, 1941 and received his basic training in Montreal. He was then posted to Cornwallis, NS for advanced engine room training, later serving on the frigate HMCS Ste. Thérèse at Lauzon, QC from October 1943 to May 1945. From Halifax, he sailed the North Atlantic on the Ste. Thérèse, on to the North Sea and and Londonderry, Ireland, doing escort and supply missions both ways. John was discharged in November 1945 and lives in the Pine Falls area. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the 1939-45 War Medal, the 1939-45 Star and the Atlantic Star. DAVIDSON, Stanley L. WWII Stanley was born in Cracknell, Manitoba in 1923. He enlisted in March 1944 with the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve and served in Newfoundland, Bermuda, the Bahamas and Ireland. Stanley was discharged in September 1945 and has been a member of the Russell Branch #159 of The Royal Canadian Legion for fifty-two years.
