PEACETIME Aaron was born in Smithers, BC in 1973, enrolled in the Military on September 15, 1993 and has been based at Shilo with 1st Regiment of Royal Canadian Horse Artillery since March 31, 1994. He served in the following areas and earned the following medals: Kosovo from August 8, 1998 to December 17, 1999, earning a NATO Medal for Kosovo; Bosnia from September 16, 2000 to March 15, 2001, earning the NATO Medal for Former Yugoslavia and the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal; OP ARCHER-Afghanistan from January 24, 2006 to August 21, 2006, earning the SouthWest Asia Service Medal and Bar; OP ATHENA-Afghanistan from September 20, 2009 to May 2010, earning the General Campaign Star with the International Security Assistance Force Bar. Aaron also has his Canadian Forces Decoration Medal. CUTLER (nee SPROTT), Susan D. SPECIAL AREA DUTY Susan was born in Brandon, Manitoba in 1982. She enrolled with the 1st Royal Canadian Horse Artillery on September 19, 2002 and was posted to CFB/ASU on June 26, 2003. On April 14, 2009, she received a posting to 1 Royal Canadian Horse Artillery, Shilo. Susan served in Afghanistan, OP ARCHER from February 5 to August 12, 2006, earning the South-West Asia Service Medal and Bar. She also served on OP ATHENA, Afghanistan from October 28, 2009 to May 2010, earning a General Campaign Star with the International Security Assistance Force Bar. DALY, Clarence E. (Sia) WWI Clarence was born in Cartwright, Manitoba in 1894 and joined the 184th Battalion of the Canadian Army in 1916. He trained at Camp Hughes, MB and served in England, France, Belgium and with the Army of Occupation in Germany. As a Sergeant, he fought at Vimy Ridge and was wounded at Hill 70. After the war, he married Helena Robertson in 1921 and they raised three children. Clarence was an original board member of the Mather Pool Elevator, helped start and sat on the Cartwright Consumers Co-op and the Credit Union boards. For many years, he sang in the Mather and Cartwright United Church choirs and around the piano at home. Clarence passed away at 75 and was a member of RCL Cartwright-Mather Legion Branch #86 from 1921-1969. CYR, David W. KOREA & PEACETIME David was born in Pine Falls, Manitoba in 1931 and joined the 1st Battalion Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry Airborne at age 17. He took his basic training and a universal carrier course at Camp Borden as well as a paratrooper’s course at Rivers and Shilo, Manitoba. When the Korean War broke out, a 2nd Battalion PPCLI was recruited and sent to Korea, replaced by the 1st after one year. He repatriated to Canada and was discharged in Winnipeg. David, his wife and four daughters and a son returned to Port Alberni in 1966. He received the United Nations Service Star, the Commonwealth Korea Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. Davis is a 40-year member of the RCL Branch #169 Port Alberni.
