41 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca CLEVETT, Jack Edward WWII Jack was born on August 6, 1926 at Souris, Manitoba and passed away on April 10, 2004. He joined the Navy, 43rd Battalion, Canadian Infantry on September 23, 1944 and took his basic training at HMCS Chippawa in Winnipeg. Moving to HMCS Griffon then to Cornwallis, he trained on torpedoes and anti-submarine warfare and was stationed at HMCS Niobe, Scotland. After V.E. Day, Jack signed up for the war in the Pacific against Japan, was sent home on leave and was in Halifax during Japan’s Atomic bombing. He worked in the torpedo men’s draft regulating office until his discharge in Winnipeg then returned to Souris and worked for the CPR. Jack was a member of RCL Souris Branch #60 for fifty-nine years. CLEVETT, Laban WWI Laban was born on March 30, 1901 in Sussex, England and passed away on August 10, 1982 in Brandon, Manitoba. Laban came to Souris in May 1907 and joined His Majesties Canadian Volunteer Reserve in Winnipeg until 1919. He worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway as baggage master in Brandon, Manitoba. Laban was a member of RCL Souris Branch #60. CLEVETT, Stanley Walter WWII Stanley was born in Souris, Manitoba on June 15, 1924 and joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. He served three years as an aircraft sheet metalist at Scoudouc, New Brunswick, an aircraft repair depot for the Atlantic Command. Stanley is a member of the Souris Branch #60 of The Royal Canadian Legion and lives in White House, Tennessee, USA. CLEVETT, Reuben WWI Reuben was born in Durrington, Sussex, England on October 27, 1895 and passed away on November 11, 1969 at Brandon, Manitoba. Reuben had come to Souris in May of 1907, served with the Canadian Army during WWI as a member of the # 10 Platoon, 90th Battalion (the Little Black Devils Royal Winnipeg Rifles), serving in England. While there, he married Alice Kathleen Tyler who worked at making ammunition. After returning to Canada, Reuben worked for the CPR and was a member of the Souris Branch #60 of The Royal Canadian Legion while Alice was a member of the Legion Auxiliary.
