PEACETIME Peter was born in Northumberland, England in 1942 and joined the Navy in Esquimalt, British Columbia. He served in Canada and on the west coast on HMCS Chippawa, HMCS Cornwallis, HMCS Naden and HMCS Assiniboine. Peter passed away in 1989 and had been a member of the Souris Branch #60 of The Royal Canadian Legion for seventeen years. CARRIERE, Arthur J. WWII Arthur was born in St. Pierre-Jolys, Manitoba in 1925 and joined the Navy on April 15, 1942 at 16. He later transferred to the Prince Henry Landing Ship Infantry then trained in the UK. From D-Day to July, he made 5 crossings to France, ferried troops in Italy, trained with special US and Canadian troops, landed in southern France and evacuated 2 Greek Islands. Back in Canada, he served on the Shediac while waiting for a ship to the Pacific. He received the 1939-45 Star, the 1939-45 War Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Bar, the France and Germany Star, the Italy Star and the France and Germany Bar. Arthur has been a member of RCL Selkirk Branch #42 for twenty-four years. CAVERS, Grace L. WWII Grace was born in Boissevain, Manitoba on July 24, 1922. She joined the Armed Forces and was stationed in Shilo, MB where she met her husband, John Alick Robb, with whom she had two girls, Gwen and Donna. Grace was a chartered member of the Souris Legion Auxiliary # 60 and held all the offices over the years. She was also very active in many sports, as well as with her church, the Royal Purple Lodge and the Souris Drop Inn Center. Predeceased by her husband, Grace married Stewart Foc in 1998 and passed away in May, 2001. She is buried in the Souris and Glenwood Cemetery. CATELLIER, Rene J. PEACETIME Rene was born in Pine Falls, Manitoba in 1950 and joined the Royal Canadian Engineers and served in Canada. He passed away in 1973. No additional information is available.
