WWII Harry enlisted in 1943 as a machinist in the shops on Burnell Street in Winnipeg during the war. He also manufactured gas tanks and spun metal for spinners on the famous hurricane aircraft in the can-car shops in Montreal. He later came back to Manitoba where he was posted in Shilo, Manitoba and drove the triple drive large wrecker trucks. After the war, Harry returned to his home town of Souris where he ran his own electronics repair shop for many years. BROOKS (nee PHILIP), Muriel A. WWII Muriel was born in Killarney, Manitoba in 1924 and joined the Women’s Royal Canadian Naval Service (Signals), serving in Canada. She passed away in 2005 and had been a member of the Fort Garry Branch #90 of The Royal Canadian Legion for eight years. No additional information is available. BROOKS, Vera E. WWII Vera was born in Darlington, Yorkshire, England in 1921. She joined the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force and served in England. Vera was a member of The RCL Atikokan Branch #145 for more than sixty years. BROOKS, Ronald M. WWII Ronald was born in 1922 and passed away on February 14, 1945 at age 22 when along with his platoon, the Royal Winnipeg Rifles, he had been ordered to clear some farm buildings. He was wounded in the leg but refused to retire as there were only four men left out of ten. Fifteen minutes later, his trench took a direct mortar hit, killing him instantly. Ron is buried at Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery in Holland. Brooks Rapids in the Caribou River is named after him.
