WWII Charles, son of Humphrey and Madeline (Stewart) Wilson, was born in Neelin, Manitoba in 1920. He served overseas with the Provost Corps as part of a motorcycle unit that brought ammunition and supplies to the troops. Later, he often remarked that the people of Holland and Belgium were happy to be liberated and showed their kindness to Canadian soldiers. He returned home in 1945, farmed for a short time then worked for the Manitoba Telephone System in Winnipeg until he retired. Charles lived in Charleswood for many years and enjoyed gardening and making sauerkraut with his friend Ray. Charles had 4 children and passed away in 2005. WILSON, William C. (Bill) WWII Bill, son of Humphrey and Madeline (Stewart) Wilson, was born in Neelin, Manitoba in 1908 on a farm settled by the Wilson family in 1886. He joined the #3 Provost Corps as a member of the Military Police and made many train trips to escort prisoners but was discharged early as his help was needed on the farm. Many family reunions took place on the family homestead and Bill also enjoyed traveling to action sales, gathering antiques and selling them. He passed away in the Killarney Hospital on March 10, 1994, leaving behind Linda (Jerry) and family along with Laurie (Sandy) and family. WINRAM, Hartley McTavish (Buzz) WWII Buzz was born in Pilot Mound, Manitoba. In 1939, he joined the Winnipeg Grenadiers, served in Jamaica for 18 months then in 1941, was sent to Hong Kong where the Grenadiers became POWs of the Japanese. After four years of torture and starvation in prison, Buzz was liberated and spent six weeks in a Vancouver hospital before going home. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the 1939-45 War Medal, the 1939-45 Star, the Pacific Star and the Canadian Centennial Medal (1967). Buzz was District Commander for ten years and Honorary President of RCL Cartwright-Mather Branch #86 for a number of years and received the Legion Order of Merit. He passed away in October 1977 after suffering tremendous health problems from his years in prison. WILSON, William Hugh SPECIAL AREA DUTY William was born in Kenora, Ontario in 1936. He joined the Navy OSS Rainbow Division Class “C” in August 1953 in Winnipeg and served on HMCS Lauzon, Chippawa, Naden, Cayuga, Cornwallis and Stadacona in Bermuda, Barbados and other areas. He was discharged in October 1955. William passed away in 1986.
