WWII Henry was born in Roblin, Manitoba in 1912 and enlisted in the Regina Rifles Regiment in Saskatchewan in 1939, serving in England and France. In 1942, he married Gladys Hockley with whom he raised two children, Alan and Sheila. Gladys, who served in the Army in England, passed away a few years ago and is buried in England. Ward Lake in northern Saskatchewan was named after Henry on November 1, 1966 by the Geographical Names Board of Canada and his name is on a kiosk at Juno Beach Centre in France. Henry, wounded on June 6 in the Normandy Beach landing, died on June 9, 1944 and is buried at Bény-sur-Mer Cemetery, France. WARD, Joseph E. WWII Joseph was born in Roblin, Manitoba on January 3, 1906. He joined the Royal Canadian Engineers on May 30, 1940 and served overseas until his honourable discharge in November of 1945. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and the 1939-45 France and Germany Star. Joseph married Irene Bercier of Roblin, obtained a farm through the Veterans’ Land Act and later sold it and moved to Winnipeg. They had 5 children, 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Joseph, a member of RCL Winnipeg, passed away on September 30, 1980 and is buried in the military section of the Brookside Cemetery in Winnipeg, MB. His wife Irene who passed away on November 7, 2007 is also buried there. WATSON, Frank J. WWII Frank was born in Lebret, Saskatchewan in 1921. He joined the Armed Forces in 1941, trained with the Royal Canadian Engineers in Chilliwack, BC and was shipped to England on the Queen Mary. From there, he boarded the Empress Australia, traveled to Africa and was redeployed to Sicily, Italy up to Milan where he crossed into France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He became ill and was sent back to Cole and Guilford in England for six months. As reinforcements were needed in Africa, Frank went with the Royal Canadian Engineers but transferred to the Princess Patricia. Frank was discharged in November 1945 having received a total of seven medals. He’s a member of RCL Pine Falls Branch #64. WATKINS, Ivan W. WWII Ivan was born in Oak Bluff, Manitoba in 1926 and joined the Army, serving in Canada. He passed away in 2002 and had been a member of the Fort Garry Branch #90 of The Royal Canadian Legion for thirteen years. No additional information is available.
