211 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca VEILLEUX, Arthur Gustav WWII Arthur was born in Hudson Bay Junction, Saskatchewan on October 2, 1924. He enlisted at 17 in the Canadian Armed Forces on October 14, 1942 as a rifleman with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. He served in Canada, the UK, Central Mediterranean and Continental Europe and was discharged on April 3, 1946. He later moved to Pine Falls, MB where he worked for the Abitibi Paper Mill. He received the 1939-45 Star, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star, the 1939-45 War Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Art had been a member of RCL Pine Falls Branch #64 for thirty-four years when he passed away on February 17, 1984. VINCENT, Wilfrid WWII Wilfrid, son of Fortunat and Marie-Louise, was born in St. George, Manitoba in 1922. He enlisted in the Army in 1939, trained in Chatham, ON, was posted to Kiska in the Aleutian Islands and England, Belgium, Holland and Germany where he was wounded. He convalesced in England then returned home. Wilfrid was sad but grateful when recalling the time he spent with his brother Omer in Belgium just prior to Omer’s death in Holland on April 13, 1945. Wilf was discharged on November 7, 1945 and received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the 1939-45 Star, the Defence Medal and the France and Germany Star. Wilfrid passed away on August 11, 2001. WALTON, Kenneth B. WWII Ken was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on August 21, 1915. He enlisted in the Canadian Army early in the war and after training, was posted to England in the fall of 1942. In Europe, he was active with truck delivery on supply lines then was reassigned to the Italian Front in Sicily. Ken was discharged in 1946 and lived in Pine Falls until he died in 1992. He is survived by his son and daughter. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the 1939-45 Star, the Italian Star, the 1939-45 War Medal, the 1939-45 Defence Medal and the France and Germany Star. He was a member of RCL Pine Falls Branch #64 for forty-seven years. WACHNIAK, John WWII John was born in Melfort, Saskatchewan in 1922 and moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1930. He joined the Army in 1943 at Fort Osborne Barracks and completed his training in Shilo, MB and Debert, NS. He served with the Perth Regiment, 5th Division, 8th Army in Italy. After the war, John married Anne Budzan in 1947 and raised 3 children, Ron, Dennis, and Jo-Anne and enjoyed 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. John wore the Palm Leaf and was a Life Member of the Ukrainian Canadian Veteran’s Legion Branch #141 for over 60 years, serving as 3rd Vice President and many years as Sergeant-at-Arms before he passed away in March 2011.
