He joined the Cameron Highlanders in January 1943 and then transferred to the Royal Canadian Air Force in January 1944, graduating as a Sergeant Air Gunner. In 1945, he was killed in an explosion on his B-24 Liberator while on a practice bombing flight off the coast of British Columbia. Ray is buried in the Veteran’s section of the Brookside Cemetery in Winnipeg, Manitoba. BATY, David I. KOREA David was born in Selkirk, Manitoba in 1929 and enlisted in the Regular Army in January 1949 at age 19. He served with the 1st Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry and was in Korea from September, 1951 until October 1952. David was wounded in action on May 27, 1952 and was hospitalized in Japan until August, when he returned to his unit. He was discharged from the military in February 1953. David has been a member of Selkirk Branch #42 of The Royal Canadian Legion for fifty-eight years. BEAUSHENE, Russell T. WWII Russell was born in Fort Frances, Ontario in 1918 and joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, serving overseas as a mechanic. Russell passed away in 2008. No additional information is available. BAUCHE, René WWI René was born in Redu, Belgium in 1889 and joined the 222nd Battalion, 14 Company MG Corps/1st Motor MG Corps, serving in France and Bexhill. René was a Sergeant Instructor at the Musketry Instructional Course in Bexhill in 1918 and he was wounded that same year. He passed away in 1956.
