He was discharged in Winnipeg in May 1946 after having served in Canada, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the 1939-45 Star and the France and Germany Star. He passed away in 1988. THIBEDEAU, Frank J. KOREA & PEACETIME Frank was born in Pine Falls, Manitoba on July 16, 1930 and enlisted with the Royal Canadian Navy in May 1949. He trained in Cornwallis, NS as a radio operator, in Esquimalt, BC on HMCS Cayuga and went to Halifax, NS for an electrical course. He then joined HMCS Cayuga in Korea as a seaman radio operator till 1952, then served in Canada on HMCS Athabaskan II before going back to Korea for twelve months. Back in Winnipeg, he served on HMCS Chippawa for five years. Frank received the Volunteer Medal, the Korean Medal, the Peacekeeping Medal and the United Nations Medal (2 tours) and has been a member of RCL Pine Falls Branch #64 for fifty-four years. THOMPSON, Donovan W. WWII Donovan was born in Morden, Manitoba in 1915. On April 29, 1941 at age 25, he enlisted with the Armed Division Fort Garry Horse, Royal Canadian Army Service Corps and served in Canada and in England from March 20, 1942 to November 11, 1945, in France from July 26, 1944 to September 13, 1945 and in Germany. Donovan, a Trooper and a tank driver/mechanic, was discharged on January 12, 1946 in Winnipeg. He received the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and the 1939-45 War Medal. Donovan passed away in 2004. THOM, Jack B. WWII Thom was born in Russell, Manitoba. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force in Winnipeg in May, 1942 and was discharged there in September, 1945 after having served in Canada, Britain and the Azores. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the 1939-45 Medal. Thom passed away in 1965.
