WWII William was born in Portage la Prairie in 1923 and joined the Army Artillery as a driver, taking his basic training in Shilo, Manitoba. He has been a member of the Portage la Prairie Branch #65 of The Royal Canadian Legion for fifty years. SINCLAIR, John V. WWII John was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1925 and enlisted on March 16, 1942 with the Canadian Essex Scots from Windsor, Ontario. He was wounded in action in Belgium and again, severely, in Germany. He also served in Canada, England and France. He was discharged at the Deer Lodge Hospital and now resides in Selkirk, Manitoba where he has been a member of the Selkirk Branch #42 of The Royal Canadian Legion for sixty-three years. SMELSKI, Alex WWII Alex was born in Dauphin, Manitoba on February 9, 1920 and enlisted in the Army on October 30, 1941. He served four years with the Canadian Fusiliers, including six months in Kiska Island. He was discharged in October 1945 and passed away on October 5, 2008. Alex had been a member of the Dauphin Branch #20 of The Royal Canadian Legion for forty-six years. SMALL, Dwight C. WWII Dwight was born in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan on April 20, 1922. He joined the Army in November 1942 and trained in Maple Creek, SK, Camp Borden and at the trade school in Ontario and tank training in England. He joined the Royal Regina Rifles in October 1944 and manned a Bren Gun for five and a half months and then drove a Bren Gun Carrier in D Company until the end of the war. Discharged in February 1946, he worked in general construction in Manitoba and Saskatchewan until retiring in 1990. He’s been a member of RCL Fort Garry Branch #90 for ten years and Gull Lake Branch for fifty-four years.
