WWII Ralph enlisted in Winnipeg in August 1941 with the Royal Canadian Air Force and was discharged in January 1946 in Winnipeg after having served in Canada. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. Ralph passed away in 1996. ROBINSON, Roy E. WWI Roy was born in Cartwright, Manitoba on August 20, 1899. He enlisted in January 1916 in Crystal City, Manitoba with the 784th Army Regiment and served at Vimy Ridge, France and England. He was discharged in May 1919. After his discharge, Roy settled in Holmfield, Manitoba on what was called “The Soldier’s Settlement”. It was there that Roy and his new bride, Ruby Chapman of Killarney, MB started their life together. They later moved to the Chesterville district and then to Cartwright where he worked at various jobs. Roy passed away on January 1, 1953. ROSS, George WWII George was born in Hartney, Manitoba in 1904 and joined the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders, serving in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He passed away in 1971 and is buried at the Riverside Cemetery. He was Past President of the Hartney Branch #26 of The Royal Canadian Legion where he was a member for twenty-five years. ROE, William Abraham WWI William was born in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba on November 13, 1892. He was working on the construction of the Grand Trunk Railway in the Tête Jaune area of BC when WWI started. The project closed down and he went back to Manitoba and joined the army. He was with the 2nd Battalion of the 1st Canadian Division in Europe from 1915 to 1919 where he fought at Passchendaele, the Somme and Vimy Ridge. William was discharged from the Army as Company Quartermaster Sergeant in 1919. He came back to Manitoba after the war and married Jessie Maude Duncan with whom he had three children. William suffered from many health problems due to his war experiences and he died of a heart attack in 1961.
