181 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca RIVARD, Pierre J.L. SPECIAL AREA DUTY Pierre was born in Shawinigan Falls, Quebec on April 5, 1939. He joined the Air Force and served with 425 Squadron Voodoo, Bagotville, PQ, 434 Squadron CF5, 417 Squadron CF-104, Cold Lake, Alberta and 3 AFS Gimli, Manitoba T 33, serving in Canada. He has been a member of the Selkirk Branch #42 of The Royal Canadian Legion for ten years. ROBERTS, Harry Elgin Sr. WWI Harry was born on May 19, 1894 in Drayton, Ontario. He enlisted with the Canadian Expeditionary Force on January 17, 1915 and served in Canada, Britain and France. He was honourably discharged on April 24, 1919 in Toronto, ON. He was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal. After the war, Harry met and married Edna Connors in Rainy River, Ontario and together they moved to Herb Lake, Manitoba where they raised nine of ten children: Alfred, Robert, Peter, Harry Jr., Aileen, Elsie, Mary, James, Milton and Thomas. Their three oldest boys served in WWII. Harry passed away in 1952 at Herb Lake, Manitoba and is buried at the Herb Lake Cemetery. ROBERTS, Robert George WWII Robert (Bob) was born in Herb Lake, Manitoba and enlisted with the Army as a gunner with the Royal Canadian Artillery. After being discharged, he returned to Northern Manitoba where he met and married Lila Murray and lived in The Pas, Manitoba where they raised their two sons. Bob passed away suddenly in 1972 in Snow Lake, Manitoba and is buried in Brookside Cemetery. ROBERTS, Peter David WWII Peter was born in Herb Lake, Manitoba in 1925 and served in the Army. After his discharge, he returned to Herb Lake where he met his wife Pauline. Together, they raised three boys in Herb Lake and later at Wekusko and in Snow Lake. Peter passed away in July 1976 at the Deer Lodge Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba and is buried in Brookside Cemetery.
