WWII Robert was born in Carman, Manitoba in 1916 and joined the Air Force in Winnipeg on April 12, 1943. He took his basic training at Brandon, Manitoba, wireless training for nine months in Calgary, Alberta and bombing and gunnery training at Mossbank, Saskatchewan. As a Sergeant, he joined the # 5 Branch as a wireless gunner and mustered out at Winnipeg in September of 1945 with the rank of Flight Sergeant. He’s been a member of the Portage la Prairie Branch #65 of The Royal Canadian Legion for sixty-four years. RESCH, Violet M. WWII Violet was born in Deer Horn, Manitoba in 1919. She joined the # 110 Depot Company, Canadian Women’s Army Corps and served in Canada. She passed away in 1988. Violet received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. RISSMAN, Burton Frederick WWII Burton was born on October 24, 1922. He joined the Lord Strathcona’s Horse, Royal Canadian Armoured Corps Division, A Squadron, 2nd Armoured Regiment and was part of the Calgary Tank Regiment on the raid on Dieppe. He was severely wounded on May 25, 1944 and died a day later. He is buried at the Naples War Cemetery in Italy. Rissman Lake in Northern Manitoba is named after him. RINN, Angus W. (Bud) WWII Angus was born in Silver Creek, Manitoba and enlisted in Winnipeg in July 1940 with the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders, First Special Service. He was transferred to the Devil’s Brigade and was discharged in Winnipeg in January 1946 after having served in Canada, England, Italy (where he was wounded in 1944), France and the USA North Pacific area. He received the 1939-45 Star, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Angus passed away in 1974.
