He joined the Army, took his training in Winnipeg and Shilo and served in Canada. The war ended before his active duty could begin so he rejoined the family at Mather, MB, married Ruth Sorenson in 1952 and farmed until retiring to Cartwright, MB. He and his wife had eight children. B. Elvis has been a member of Branch #86 of The Royal Canadian Legion for twenty-six years. NASLUND, Joseph B. WWII Joseph was born in Eriksdale, Manitoba in 1918 and joined the Lake Superior Regiment, serving in Europe. He passed away in 1980. NICKLIN, John J. WWI John was born in McLean, North Dakota on August 25, 1898. He enlisted in May 1916 with the Royal Canadian Air Force, 184 Canadian Infantry and served in England and Germany. He was discharged in June 1919 and married Kristjana Goodman and they lived in Mozart, Saskatchewan. NEWTON, Frank E.C. WWII Frank was born in Drayton, Ontario in 1914. He moved to Neelin, Manitoba and joined the # 3 Casualty Clearing Station, Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps and served in Canada, England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He moved to Cartwright, MB in 1956 and worked with his cousin Ralph Newton in Newton’s Store until 1969. Frank then moved to Winnipeg and worked for the Children’s Aid Society. He and his wife, Ida Bolton of Neelin, had three children. Frank passed away in 2002 and had been a member of the Cartwright-Mather Branch #86 of The Royal Canadian Legion for fifty-eight years.
