159 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca McMILLAN, Coreen M. WWII Coreen was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1923. She joined the 40th Provost Corps and served in Canada. Coreen was married to Gordon Sill while in the military and passed away in 1967. McMURRAY, Robert M. WWII Robert was born in Russell, Manitoba and enlisted with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles in Brandon, MB in June 1940. He was discharged in Winnipeg in October 1945 after having served in Canada, England, Belgium, France, Germany and Holland. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the Defence Medal, the 1939-45 Star and the France and Germany Star. Robert had been a member of the Russell Branch #159 of The Royal Canadian Legion for fifty-nine years when he passed away in 2004. MILLAR, Charlie A. WWII Charlie was born in Arthur, Manitoba on August 25, 1925. He left home at eighteen against his parents’ wishes and first served with the Lake Superior Regiment before leaving for England in 1944, also serving in France, Germany and Holland. At war’s end, he mustered out to the Royal Winnipeg Rifles whose regiment guarded the infamous Nazi SS Colonel Kurt Meyer. Charlie returned to Canada in 1946 where he was honourably discharged. He received the France and Germany Star, the Canadian Volunteer Medal and Clasp, the Victory Medal 1939-1945 and the Netherlands Commemorative Medal. He was a member of the RCL Waskada Branch #92 for forty years before he passed away on September 21, 2007. MEADOWS, Victor Russell WWII Victor was born in the Endcliffe district, Manitoba and enlisted with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps, Lincoln & Welland, in Winnipeg in July 1940. He was discharged in Winnipeg in October 1945 after serving in Canada, England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the 1939-45 Defence Medal, the 1939-45 Star and the France and Germany Star. Victor passed away in 1957.
