WWII William was born in Berwick, Ontario on February 22, 1920 and joined the Royal Canadian Navy, HMCS Prince David, serving in Normandy, France, Greece, North Africa and England. He passed away in 2005 and had joined the General Lipsett Branch #99 of The Royal Canadian Legion on May 10, 1951. McDONALD, A. Roy WWII Roy was born in Clearwater, Manitoba on December 27, 1921 and was one of four brothers who served in the Armed Forces during WWII. He enlisted with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry on September 18, 1939 and after completing his basic training, was posted to Great Britain until July 1943. He attained the rank Of Sergeant while overseas then returned to Canada, took Officer’s Training at Shilo, MB and was promoted to Lieutenant in November of 1943. On May 1, 1944, Roy was medically discharged. He married Evelyn Smith of Bissett, MB in October of 1944 and they had four children, Bill, Neil, Susan and Linda. Roy passed away in August 1986 and Evelyn in November, 2002. McDONALD, John Kenneth “Ken” WWII Ken was born in Cypress River, Manitoba in 1914 and enlisted in the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion in 1943. He trained in Shilo, MB and was later stationed in Niagara Falls, ON where he served as a paratrooper instructor. He was a Sergeant when he was discharged in 1945. He married Rawny (Olafson) in 1938 and they had three children, Sharon, Ian and Bob. The family moved to Pine Falls, MB in 1949 where Ken worked mostly with the Abitibi Paper Company. Actively involved in local organizations, he was Pine Falls and area Fire Chief when he retired. Ken and Rawny also enjoyed many winters away in Mesa, Arizona. Ken passed away in 1992 and Rawny in 2005. McDONALD, George M. WWII George was born in Pilot Mound, Manitoba in 1912 and went overseas with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps. On August 23, 1943, he was killed in action in England at the age of 32. George is commemorated at Brookwood Military Cemetery in Surrey, England. McDonald Island in Northern Indian Lake was named after him in 1995.
