143 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca LEVERINGTON, William O. (Bill) SPECIAL AREA DUTY & PEACETIME Bill was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1933. He joined the Canadian Army in 1955 and had risen to the rank of Sergeant when he was diagnosed with diabetes. Because of this, he was posted to Ottawa in 1973 and after retiring in 1983, remained in Ottawa. During his service, he was stationed in Ontario, Manitoba and New Brunswick but travelled all across Canada. He also served with NATO in Germany from 1959-1962 and in Cyprus with the UN from 1964-1965. LEWIS, Clarke WWII Clarke was born in Morris, Manitoba on July 8, 1919. He joined the Canadian Army and later switched to the Air Force where he served on bombers as a wireless operator during many raids over Germany. After the war, he was a member of the Morris Branch #111 of The Royal Canadian Legion for over sixty years, serving in various positions including that of President in 1990. Clarke passed away on October 30, 2004 at the Morris General Hospital and is buried in the family plot in the Morris Cemetery. LEWIS, Noel J. WWII Noel was born in Morris, Manitoba on May 27, 1922 and enlisted in the Canadian Army in June of 1941. He started with the Signal Corps, went on to Officer’s Training at Gordon Head, BC in 1943 and became a 2nd Lieutenant. He was stationed at Brockville, ON then went overseas in 1944. He served with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in England and Italy where he was severely wounded in February 1945. Back home, Noel was a member of RCL Morris Branch #111 for twenty-eight years, serving in various offices including President in 1948 and 1953. Noel passed away on June 10, 1973 and is buried in the Morris Cemetery. LEWIS, James P. WWII James was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on April 29, 1918. He joined the Canadian Army in 1940 and switched to the Air Force in 1943, serving in Canada and England as a navigator. After the war, James was a member of the Morris Branch #111 of The Royal Canadian Legion for over sixty years, serving in various offices including President in 1991. He suffered a stroke in early August of 2003 and after a little more than two months in the hospital, passed away on October 13th. He is buried in the family plot of the Morris Cemetery.
