141 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca LEGARY, Harvey Albert WWII Harvey was born in Pilot Mound, Manitoba in 1921 and joined the 427 Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Force, serving in England and Germany. He was killed in action at age 22 on July 29, 1944 and is commemorated at Hamburg Cemetery in Germany. He was the son of Edgar D. and Bethel H. Legary of Pilot Mound. Legary Lake, southeast of Tadoule Lake, was named after him in 1957. LESPERANCE, Charles A. PEACETIME Charles was born in Morris, Manitoba in 1936. He joined the Navy and served in Canada and the High Seas on HMCS Cornwallis, Gloucester, Churchill, Esquimalt, Antigonish and Chippawa from 1954-1959. No additional information is available. PEACETIME Robert was born in Morris, Manitoba and joined the Navy, serving in Canada, Bermuda and the High Seas on HMCS Cornwallis, Gloucester, Coverdale, Assiniboine, St. Laurent, Fraser, Chippawa, New Waterford Naval Radio Station Gander, Canadian Forces Station (CFS) Gander, CFS Leitrim, CFS Alert and the Canadian Forces Supplementary Radio System. Robert was awarded the Special Services Medal and the CDI. LESPERANCE, Gerard L. KOREA & PEACETIME Gerard was born in Morris, Manitoba in 1931. He joined the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps, Royal Canadian Dragoons, Lord Strathcona’s Horse in the Royal Canadian Air Force and served in Canada, the USA, Korea and Europe. He has been a member of Leduc Branch #108 of The Royal Canadian Legion for thirty-eight years and received the UN Korea Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Bars, the Peacekeeping Medal, the Special Services Medal and bars and the Alberta Centennial Medal.
