(Haig) WWII John was born in Darlingford, Manitoba in 1918 and enlisted in the # 40 Canadian Provost Company in September of 1942, serving in Canada. He was discharged for medical reasons on December 21, 1942. When John passed away in 1995, he had been a member of the Morden Branch #11 of The Royal Canadian Legion for six years. LAWRENCE, Kenneth S. WWII Kenneth was born in Ingelow, Manitoba in 1922 and joined the Royal Winnipeg Rifles. He was killed in action on June 8, 1944 at 21 and is commemorated at Bény-sur-Mer Canadian War Cemetery in Calvados, France. Kenneth was the youngest son of Bertram and Mary Lawrence and was survived by his wife of 27 days, Ruth Russell of Isle of Wright, England. Kenneth, along with other members of the 3rd Canadian Division which included their Commanding Officer, Major Frederick Hodge, was captured by Hitler’s Elite SS Battalion and taken to their headquarters at the Chateau d’Audrieu where they were questioned and executed. Lawrence Island in Island Lake was named after him in 1982. LEAD, Albert Edward WWI Albert joined the 43rd Cameron Highlanders, 16th Canadian Scottish Regiment and Canadian Army Service Corps Seaford, serving in England and France. He received the Mons Star. No additional information is available. LEACH, Edgar Mervin WWII Edgar was born in Semans, Saskatchewan on May 21, 1925. He enlisted in Winnipeg in 1943 and trained in Winnipeg and Shilo before landing in England on July 2, 1944. He was attached to the Essex Scottish Regiment and served in the Northwest Europe Campaign in Holland, Belgium, France and Germany. He was discharged in March 1946 but re-enlisted in the Airborne Division and later transferred to the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery, stationed at Rivers, Winnipeg and Shilo, retiring in 1970 after twenty-five years of service. He served as Hartney’s Town Constable and worked for Pioneer Electric in Regina and retired there. Edgar passed away on October 11, 2008 and is buried in the Windsor Cemetery in Teulon, Manitoba.
