He joined the 90th Winnipeg Rifles and transferred to the 27th Battalion, serving in France, Belgium and Germany. He was presented with the Belgian Croix de Guerre for distinguished work under shell fire at Bourlon Wood. Arthur was a Life Member of the Hartney Branch #26 of The Royal Canadian Legion. LAUGHLAND, George WWI George was born in 1899 and joined the Canadian Army Medical Corps, 6th Field Ambulance, 2nd Division. He served in Mons, France and Bonn, Germany. No additional information is available. LAVOIE, Ralph (Raoul) WWII Ralph was born in Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba on May 12, 1919. He enlisted at age 22 with the Royal Canadian Artillery, 24th Field Regiment at Portage la Prairie, MB on December 4, 1941. Although serving in the forces until his discharge on January 26, 1946, information is limited on Ralph’s whereabouts during these four years. It is known however, that Ralph was posted with the 24th Field Regiment to the Kiska Island in the Aleutians in the North Pacific for a period of time. He returned to the Pine Falls area at the end of hostilities where he settled and raised a family. Ralph passed away on June 10, 1994. LAVOIE, Albert WWII Albert was born in Pine Falls, Manitoba on May 30, 1922. At 21, he enlisted with the Brockville Rifles at Fort Osborne Barracks in Winnipeg and was posted with the unit to Fort William, Ontario for basic training in 1943. Later in 1944, the Regiment was dispatched to Kingston Park, Jamaica where he remained until war’s end. In Jamaica, his duties involved being attached to the Support Company Noter Platoon as a transport operator and motorcycle dispatch driver, entailing numerous hours on guard duty. Albert’s ability to play music also required that he be involved with the USO shows. While in Jamaica, he suffered with extreme bouts of malaria and returned to the Pine Falls area in 1945 after demobilization.
