WWII & KOREA & PEACETIME Wilbert was born in Fraserville, Nova Scotia in 1921 and enlisted in the Army with the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in 1943. He served overseas until 1945, in Korea in 1950 and did UN peacekeeping in Egypt from 1963-64. He received many medals in his career before retiring in Winnipeg in 1970 as a Master Warrant Officer. He taught mechanics until he retired in 1985 and moved with his wife to Calgary, Alberta in 1986. Wilbert passed away in 2007. ANDERSON, Alexander C. WWII Alexander was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1923. He joined the Navy and served as a leading seaman torpedo man on the HMCS Courtenay, HMCS Pound Maker, and HMCS Miramichi. He was part of the G8 group convoy sailing from St. John’s to Londonderry, Ireland. During his time in the war, he served on the High Seas, England and Canada. Alexander was a legion member for thirty years and a Life Member of The RCL Winnipeg Beach # 61 for fifteen years, serving on the Executive as Treasurer and President till his death on June 2, 2010. ANGUS, James I. WWII Angus was born in Silver Creek, Manitoba in 1913 and enlisted in Winnipeg in April 1940 with the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders. He was discharged there in September 1945 after having served in Canada, England and Northwest Europe. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the 1939-1945 War Medal. Angus passed away in 1991. ANGERS, Eldon WWII Eldon was born in Miami, Manitoba in 1924 and in 1943, joined the Royal Signal Corps in Vancouver, BC. He served in England and Continental Europe and was at Juno Beach on D-Day. As a Signalman, he rode high powered motorcycles over difficult terrain and fought in the battle of Caen. Wounded in action on July 18, 1944, he was medically discharged and received his Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp in Winnipeg on August 24, 1945. He married Velma Martindale and they lived in Morden, Miami, Winnipeg, Flin Flon, Lynn Lake, the Pas and Brandon where Eldon was a member of the RCL Brandon Branch #3 for fourteen years until he died in 1974.
