KAVANER, George Franklin WWI George was born in Sydenham, Ontario in 1895 and enlisted in December 1915 with the 146th Battalion. He served in Canada, England, France and Belgium with the 52nd Battalion of the Signal Corps where one of his tasks was repairing telephone lines on the Front Line. Discharged on March 29, 1919, he received the British War and Victory Medals. In Sperling, MB, he worked for Consolidated Elevators then was a self-employed carpenter in Mather, MB until he died in 1983. George joined the then Great War Veteran’s Association in 1919, was a Legion Member in Kingston and Dryden, ON as well as with the Cartwright-Mather Branch #86 where he received his 60-year and Past President pins. KEELER, Kenneth William WWII Kenneth was born in Lauder, Manitoba in 1914. He enlisted with the Lord Strathcona Horse and trained in Winnipeg, Borden, Debert, NS and England, serving in North Africa, Italy and in France where he was wounded. He received the 1939-45 Star (Battle of Britain), the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the 1939-45 War Medal. Kenneth had been a member of the Hartney Branch #26 of The Royal Canadian Legion for thirty years when he passed away in 1975. KEELE, Orval E. WWI & WWII Orval was born in Manitoba in 1899 and joined the Air Force. He served in England and overseas as a Sergeant with his unit, R250563. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and was honourably released and transferred to the Reserve general section, Class “E” on May 20, 1946 at the age of 46. Orval was eighty when he passed away in Winnipeg on October 24, 1979.
