WWII Neil was born in Blackstock, Ontario in 1922 and joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, serving in Canada. Neil was an aero-engine mechanic and after manning pool in Ontario, was posted to Manitoba at Souris, Gimli and Winnipeg. As the pilots trained in this area, the planes had to be kept in repair. Neil passed away in 2000 and had been a member of the Boissevain Branch #10 of The Royal Canadian Legion for twenty years. JONASSON, Leonard N. WWII Leonard was born in Point Roberts, Washington, USA in 1924. He joined the # 76 Halifax Squadron of the Air Force and served in France and England. He was killed in action on April 17, 1943 at age 17 and is commemorated at Liesse Communal Cemetery, Aisne, France. He was the son of Otto and Asrun Jonasson of Point Roberts, Washington. Jonasson Peninsula on Gertel Lake in Manitoba was named after him in 1995. KALYNUK, Alexander WWII Alexander was born in Silver Creek, Manitoba in 1915. He joined the Lake Superior Regiment, 4th Division as a wireless operator and served in Canada, Great Britain, France, Holland and Belgium. He received the 1942 and 1945 Good Conduct Medal, the Defence Medal for Great Britain, the France and Germany Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the Defence Medal, the 1939-45 Medal and was mentioned in “Dispatches”. Alexander was discharged in 1945 and he passed away in 1995. JOYCE, Delmar R. WWII Delmar was born in Birtle, Manitoba and joined the 5th Armoured Division, serving in England, the Mediterranean and Europe. His rank dropped to Corporal when he declined to serve with the Occupational Forces in order to return to his family. In 1936, Delmar married Alice Neville and in 1952, they moved to California, along with their three children and many descendants. Delmar passed away in 2005.
