113 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca HUBERT, Anthony Roman WWII Anthony was born in St. Leon, Manitoba in 1922 and moved with his parents to rural Dauphin, MB at a very early age. In 1942, he joined the Royal Canadian Army, Royal Winnipeg Rifles Division and served in Europe. While in Germany, he was captured but escaped and was awarded the Croix de Guerre. After his discharge in 1945, he returned to Dauphin and was employed at the local dairy as well as on local farms. He and his wife, Mollie (Welgan), raised three sons. Anthony passed away of lung cancer in 2007 and had been a member of the Dauphin Branch #20 of The Royal Canadian Legion. HUNT, Arthur Winter WWI Arthur was born in Portage la Prairie in 1893 and joined the 10th Overseas Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force, 16th Battalion, Canadian Infantry. He was killed in action at Vimy Ridge, France on April 9, 1917. No additional information is available. IMPETT, David B. WWII David was born to Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Impett in Birnie, Manitoba in 1923, the youngest of four children. He farmed with his parents before joining the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders, Royal Canadian Signals Armoured Corps on February 18, 1943. He served in Canada, the UK and Europe, coming home on April 10, 1946. He received the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the 1939-35 War Medal. Back home, he farmed with his parents west of Birnie, MB until years later, when he and his brother Andrew took over the farm. David passed away on February 21, 2006 in Neepawa, MB and is buried in the Arden Manitoba Cemetery. HUNT, Richard James WWII Richard was born in Dorset, England on July 30, 1916 and immigrated to Canada. On June 24, 1940, he enlisted in the Canadian Army in Montreal, QC and served in Northwest Europe as a truck driver/mechanic. In England, he joined the Canadian Grenadier Guards, the 14th Field 3rd Division, 21st Army Group as a dispatch rider, then the Grenadier/Gunner Royal Canadian Artillery, serving in Canada, the High Seas, England, France, Normandy, Belgium, Holland and Germany. Dick received a citation for outstanding service, 3 Canadian General Volunteer Service Medals, 2 Campaign Stars and the 1939-45 France and Germany Star. Discharged in Ottawa on October 29, 1945, Dick was a Lifetime Member of RCL Selkirk Branch #42 when he died on January 13, 1990.
