He joined the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry on November 25, 1939 and by Christmas, had left for England where he served with his unit. Later, in Sicily, Italy and Holland, he was a driver/mechanic, driving Universal Bren Gun Carriers for the support company, Carrier Platoon. He retired as a Corporal and after the war, Jim returned to Napinka where he farmed and did carpentry work. He and his wife, Wilhelmina Greenlay, formerly from the Canadian Women’s Army Corps, raised seven children. Jim had been an active member of RCL Napinka Branch #89 for forty-nine years when he passed away on July 6, 1984. HONEY, Edward Lloyd WWII Edward was born in Silver Creek, Manitoba in 1921 and enlisted in Winnipeg in October 1942 with the CIC, 1st Battalion, Midland Regiment. He was discharged in Winnipeg in October 1944 after having served in Canada. Edward belonged to the local Reserves (Manitoba Dragoons) for about a year then joined the Pacific Command and was sent to Prince Rupert. Edward is deceased. HORN, Lloyd O. WWII Lloyd was born in Lenore, Manitoba in 1921. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in Winnipeg in 1941 then sailed to Bournemouth, England after training as a pilot. In January 1944, he was posted to Cairo where his squadron was on coastal patrol and convoy escort. After serving in Cairo and Jerusalem, he returned to Bournemouth, left there July 5, 1945 and was discharged in Winnipeg on September 20, 1945. Lloyd was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, the War Medal 1939-1945, the Defence Medal and the 1939-45 RCAF Star. In 1984, he became a founding member of the Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum in Brandon, MB. Lloyd has been a member of the RCL Virden Branch #8 for forty-six years. HONEY, Lawrence W. WWII Lawrence was born in Binscarth, Manitoba in 1923 and joined the Air Force, Yorkshire-6th Group, serving in England. He passed away in 2010 and had been a member of the Russell Branch #159 of The Royal Canadian Legion.
