101 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca HAGEN, Ole A. WWII Ole was born in Cumberland House, Saskatchewan on May 9, 1927, the fifth of seven brothers. During WWII, his four older brothers had enlisted in the Canadian Forces and at 17, he also enlisted. He was assigned to basic training with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry at CFB Shilo and Fort Garry, MB. Just as his Company B was assigned to go overseas, Ole was confined to infirmary and before he recovered, the war ended. Ole was a lifelong member of RCL Red Deer Branch #35 for sixty-five years and passed away on October 15, 2009. As per his final wishes, his remains were donated to the University of Calgary for scientific research. HALL, Walter E. WWI Walter was born in Asessippi, Manitoba and joined the 203rd Battalion in 1917 before transferring to the Royal Air Corps and serving in England and France. Along with his pilot, he was shot down in hostile country around October 1918 and became a POW. Walter passed away on August 30, 1979 and is buried in the Foxwarren Cemetery in Foxwarren, Manitoba. He had been a member of the Foxwarren Branch #152 of The Royal Canadian Legion for many years. HAMMOND, J. Stanley WWII Stanley was born in Manitoba in 1920 and joined the Lord Strathcona Horse Regiment. He served in Canada, England, North Africa, Italy, France, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands. He passed away in 2007 and had been a member of the Boissevain Branch #10 of The Royal Canadian Legion for thirty-six years. HALWAS, Edward WWII Edward was born in Inglis, Manitoba. He enlisted with the Royal Regiment of Canada in Winnipeg in May, 1943 and was discharged there in March 1945 after having served overseas. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the Defence Medal and the 1939-45 Star. Edward passed away in 2006.
